NCTS at a Glance...

North Country Tree Service (NCTS) is a member with the International Society Of Arboriculture
(ISA), Society of Commercial Arboriculture (SCA) and the
New York State Arborists.  In addition, I
have provided
in-depth training sessions to enhance job skills, job performance and plant health care
with your local Cornell Cooperative Extension and local Plattsburgh State University.  What does this
mean to you?  It means I have
resources and that means I can provide you with the most options for
the care of your trees and hedges.  Options someone else may not be able to provide and
most likely
not even be aware they exist.  Of course, options mean benefits and benefits mean you get the work
you want done by a professional and that
saves you future expenses.
How it Works...

NCTS is a small privately owned business focused on providing proper care for your trees and
hedges using the
latest information available.  Some of my specialties include hazard assessment, tree
removals, corrective pruning and hedge management.  That means I do everything from correctly
assessing the hazard to actually doing the removal whether it’s a standard removal or a highly
technical one.  In addition, I will
restore your trees and hedges from damage done by nature or non-
professional companies.

How does it work?  You call the office and set up an appointment for a free inspection of your trees
and hedges.  I will provide a
detailed and professional estimate of what it will cost to complete the
entire job.  I will evaluate mechanical, chemical, non-infectious disorders and infectious diseases.
Testing the soil for compaction, moisture, N, P, K and pH when appropriate.  You will be shown
how to minimize or
eliminate construction damage saving you hundreds if not thousands of dollars
from damage to your trees, hedges and foundation.  You will understand the benefits of proper
pruning and how it will cost you
much less if done properly the first time – much less.  For instance,
if your trees were pruned after the ice storm in 1998 or still have broken and hanging branches, split
trunks or the tops are partially or completely missing - then please call
today.  Those disfigured and
dying trees and hedges could be dangerous to you, your children, your pets or your property.
What's the latest alert heading our way...

Sudden Oak Death is a recently recognized disease that is killing oaks and other plant species in the
western U.S. First noticed in 1995, the disease has been confirmed in the coastal areas north and
south of San Francisco, and in a relatively remote location in southwestern Oregon. The pathogen
responsible for the disease, a fungus-like organism called
Phytophthora ramorum, is also found in
Germany and Denmark, where it is causing a recently identified disease on Rhododendron and
Viburnum.

Although in the U.S. the disease has been found only in California and Oregon, it is of
great concern
to land managers in the Eastern U.S. as well.  At least two eastern oak species, northern pin oak
(
Quercus palustris) and northern red oak (Quercus rubra), are highly susceptible to the disease when
inoculated with the pathogen. Forest land managers nationwide should be aware of the symptoms of
sudden oak death, and should contact their nearest
arborist if they suspect that the disease is present
in a new location.
