This basically means each site has variables that need to be taken into account in order to give you a fair price.
Is there reasonable access for equipment?
Where is the septic and leach field?
Do you have underground water spouts?
Is your soil user friendly - clay, sand etc.?
What season is it - is the ground frozen with 2' of snow?
Anything overhead that will limit access of 13' high trucks?
Is there room to turn around or do I have to back up a 45' truck & chipper down a tight curved road?
Do you have a lot of immovable objects likely to be damaged in the felling zone?
Can the tree be felled in one piece or does it need piecing down?
Will I be picking up the large wood in nice size logs with the crane or does it all have to be cut into chunks in order to be removed?
How far do I have to drag the brush to the chipper and is it up hill - or can I pull right up to it?
Things like that...
Grinding stumps involves a few other things:
First of all - Dig Safe of New York gets involved and I do not do anything without their on site inspections and recommendations. It is the law and it makes a lot of sense. I arrange everything and all the different utility companies come out to the job site and mark their respective underground utilities. It's imperative for me and it's good information for your records.
Grinding is contingent on no immovable objects found on or below grade for each particular stump.
Reasonable access is needed of course.
So...what is the bottom line, what's the rate?
Typically, your removals fall into categories (priced per tree).
$42.50 - felling whole tree with cut at the base (common level)
$85.00 - felling whole tree using 1, 2, or 3 ton winch (most common level)
$146.25 - simple but time consuming with handling of limbs, wood (common level)
$292.50 - somewhat technical, more handling and some roping, some rigging
$438.75 - technical, moderate rigging and roping and so on...
Pruning has four basic areas - Crown Reduction, Crown Lifting, Crown Cleaning
and Restoration Pruning (priced per tree).
$16.25 - $85.00 - small to large trees of light pruning (most common level)
$146.25 - moderate pruning and some restoration pruning
$292.50 - heavier pruning and involved restoration (unusual level of care)
Hedges - There are so many different species and different levels of pruning needs. For instance, most have been mismanaged by well intentioned home owners or mis- informed tree companies. Either way, it is a restoration job and that requires skill and experience to bring your hedges back.
Having said that - cedar hedges are the most common and the most abused. I guarantee you that I can tell you what is wrong and how to correct it. So what does it cost? Sorry to say that with all the different sizes, shapes and conditions, in addition to variable access routes to the hedges, am I pruning all sides, will I be managing the hedge from now on... So you can see the price is customized to your hedge.
However, it does basically fall into a price per linear foot. I pace it off and multiply by 2.62 feet which is my relaxed stride. I only pace one side and that is the distance but I will prune all sides and the top if access is allowed on your neighbors' sides.
$0.75 per linear foot: all sides, walk along and prune (no ladders)
$1.00 - $1.50 - all sides, 8' ladder, even ground (most common level)
$1.50 - $2.00 - all sides, 12' ladder or scaffolding, even ground
$2.00 - $2.50 - all sides, bucket truck height.
ALL RATES ARE SUBJECT TO THE CONDITIONS BELOW CONTINGENT WITH YOUR PARTICULAR PROJECT.
RATES FOR ROUTINE SCHEDULED WORK: MOST COMMON RATE
$85.00 per hour. This rate applies to most situations on a normal business day with a minimum of between 2 and 4 hours depending on location and equipment involved. Time is clocked from leaving the shop until my return. This includes: one man and either the stump grinder, skid steer, chipper, dump truck or various combinations.
RATES FOR UNSCHEDULED PROJECTS:
Time and a half per hour at the given rate with the standard 2 or 4 hour minimum depending on location and equipment involved. This rate applies to any situation where the work is done unexpectedly. Example: Emergencies or unexpected jobs which take priority over previously contracted work. Time is clocked from leaving the shop until my return.
RATES FOR TECHNICAL PROCEDURES:
$146.25 per hour with the standard 2 or 4 hour minimum depending on location and equipment used. Bucket truck, climbing gear and/or technical rigging is involved utilizing ropes and/or standard rigging gear. Rigging is only done when worker, equipment or property safety is a concern. Technical rates apply as stated otherwise use the rate which applies to the situation. Time is clocked from leaving the shop until my return. Lower transportation rates may apply depending on site location and equipment involved.
RATES FOR WORKING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS:
$231.25 per hour with a 2 or 4 hour minimum depending on location and equipment used. This is during inclement weather with equipment and/or rigging gear and is always unscheduled. Working in poor weather conditions is dangerous and hard on the equipment. Extra time is needed for project completion and to clean up the equipment later. Ropes are compromised and sometimes need replacing. Time is clocked from leaving the shop until my return. Lower transportation rates may apply depending on site location and equipment involved.
RATES FOR WORKING ON WEEKENDS:
Time and a half per hour at the given rate with the standard 2 or 4 hour minimum depending on location and equipment involved. Weekends are always unscheduled events. Weekend rates supersede all other rates. Example: Technical rigging on the weekend uses weekend rates. Time is clocked from leaving the shop until my return.
MOST WORK IS DONE ON A PER JOB BASIS - ACTUAL RATES MAY VARY FOR YOUR PROJECT AND WILL BE LISTED ON YOUR DETAIL. VOLUME WORK IS USUALLY LESS PER ITEM AND MAY BE LESS PER HOUR DEPENDING ON LOCATION AND EQUIPMENT INVOLVED.
